An American Werewolf In London
A DVD Review by Kitty Monster
Universals' new DVD release of John Landis' An American Werewolf In London, is a must for any
horror fan. If you haven't seen this film, shame on you, if you
have then you are still in for a treat. This new release has
a plethora of pleasing extras, from a short making of documentary
to interviews with John Landis and Rick Baker, and much, much
more.
Inspiring performances by Naughton,
Agutter, Dunne and an uncredited orange Tabby as well as the
fabulous directoral vision of Landis and cutting edge effects
by Rick Baker, bring this story of a girl and her dog...oh, sorry...this
story of a young man bitten by a werewolf and his dead friend,
to the screen with a style and sensitivity lacking in a vast
majority of horror films, all the while walking a tightrope
between traditional horror and black comedy.
An American Werewolf In London is probably still the greatest werewolf movie
ever made and for the most part still stands up well today. The
only flaw in the film being that the effects haven't held up
quite as well over the years. Sorry Rick, Joe Dante's The
Howling still wins the prize for best werewolf captured to
film and is probably the second best werewolf flick ever, however,
you still deserved your Oscar for American Werewolf as well as
the undying gratitude of horror fans everywhere. Kudos and Kitty treats to everyone involved
with this film.
Bye for Meow!
