The Coffee Shop of Horrors located in an historic 100 year old building
on the square in downtown Gainesville has undergone a complete renovation
in the last year. The monumental task of returning this wonderful old
building from its former state of “70's stripmall acoustical tile nightmare”
was completed early November 2002. Our mission has been to re-envision
the building to reflect its former glory while still allowing it too have
some feeling of its true age. This task included removal of modern materials
and refinishing of the stamped metal ceilings, replacing the modern glass
store front with a covered patio area, composed of brick pavers and meticulously
designed wrought iron paneling. The interior includes tongue-in-groove
pine flooring, beaded paneling, ceramic tiles and a bare minimum of modern
building materials. With its exposed brick and authentic period material,
combined with exposed ductwork and electrical conduit, the style created
is best described as Urban Southern-Gothic.
This Urban Southern-Gothic atmosphere also houses a large collection of some of the best examples of art in the history of film advertising as well as a large collection of autographs from “well known” genre stars as well as some who's “horrific” pasts may surprise you. Interspersed with these items are pieces of memorabilia ranging from life masks of some of horrors “masters”, sculpture from some of the genres great talents and an amusing and sometimes frightening array of horror models and other artifacts.
In keeping with its innovative and unique atmosphere, The Coffee Shop of Horrors will also offer innovations in technology to its customers in the form of free wireless network access, presented through the combination of the power of Apple computers and the speed of DSL. Not only will anyone with an Airport enabled laptop have access to DSL, but The Coffee Shop of Horrors will be installing several Macintosh stations for customer use. Coffee Shop of Horrors is also proud to use Apple products for all of its business needs from web management to a state of the art Mac powered point of sale system.
